Doctrine

Doctrine

Calvary Chapel Burnaby is a Burnaby church plant of Calvary Chapel. It has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and to be conformed into his image by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not opposed to denominations as such, only their over-emphasis on doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the body of Christ.

What to expect

What to expect

Our Sunday morning church worship time is familiar and comfortable. After our worship time we take a coffee/tea break and come back together to continue worship through teaching from the Bible. We teach chapter by chapter through God’s Word in an expository format. We don’t take up tithes or offerings during our services; There’s an offering box at the back of the church if you wish to worship in that way.

Ministry Style

Ministry Style

Our Ministry style at South Burnaby Church has us placing great emphasis on the exposition of Scripture and teaching the entire Bible chapter-by-chapter and verse-by-verse. We believe that the Spirit of God works through the Word of God in the hearts of the people of God. Exposition is more than merely speaking about the bible or from The Bible; it is the proclamation of The Bible itself.

School of Ministry

School of Ministry

As a Burnaby church that thrives on discipleship, we have a great School of Ministry for anyone interested in deepening their faith and learning how to practically serve the church. If you feel called to the ministry, or called to church planting, Calvary Chapel Burnaby has an extensive church planting network in Calvary Chapel with a lot of support.

Authenticity, simplicity, love, and discipleship…

Calvary Chapel Burnaby is a church that is authentic in life: real people, real problems, real love, real support, and real solutions through the word of God. It is a church that loves its neighbours as itself through serving, giving, encouraging, rejoicing with those who rejoice and mourning with those who mourn. We love to worship and will promote corporate worship experiences while cultivating personal worship day to day. We're a Burnaby church that is growing; People who are engaged in sound biblical teaching and ‘life on life’ discipleship, growing in their relationship with God; disciples producing disciples; home groups producing home groups; ministries producing ministries; and churches producing churches. Our church is a place that has Jesus at the centre of every decision and every action, always longing to bring glory and honour to His name.[ Read More ]

Leadership Grace

In church leadership we’re all too often placed in tough situations making tough decisions. Some of those decisions can make or break relationships, and at some of those decisions we often look back on with regret. How many times have we asked ourselves “How could I have done that differently?” It’s common, being human, to assign blame upon anyone but ourselves.

The long walk back

Ephesians 4:32.
Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you…

The road back through forgiveness to the place where we started from is a long way sometimes. The love and graciousness of those around us will always dictate whether it is a lonely road of heartbreak or a road of recovery back to health.

time

Injuring eternity.

Have you ever considered the time that we have left in this life? Gandalf said it best “All you have to do is to decide what to do with the time given to you.” Whether we like to think about it or not, we’re on the clock and time is unforgiving. We can spend hours ‘killing time,’ but it actually does injure eternity.

Messenger vs. Editor

It does not take much to look around and recognize that any movement embracing tolerance is intolerant of evangelical Christianity. As a Christian who is out there talking to people about their spirituality and Christianity, I don’t receive a lot of tolerance. The temptation is, and always has been, to water down the message of God in the Bible so that we’re more accepted. We are tempted each day to be an editor of God’s Word, instead of a messenger of God’s Word.

Endurance

Hebrews 12: 1 – 2 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Faith

Faith isn’t a perfect person rubbing a genie’s bottle and hoping for the best. It isn’t a roll of the dice or anything left to luck or chance. Faith isn’t having faith in itself. It’s something that despite our pasts and our present circumstance we can have in abundance.

His Grace Is Enough

I recently taught from 2 Corinthians 12 and even now the lasting message from God’s Word is in my heart. It’s hard to read this chapter and not be struck by Paul’s remarkable ability to put life into context. In this instance we’re seeing him surrender his pain and suffering into the arms of God.
